THE TURKS & CAICOS AT A GLANCE
This 192 square mile (landmass) British Dependent Territory comprises two island groups, the Turks and the Caicos, which are separated by the Columbus Passage and are situated at approximately 22 degrees longitude and 72 degrees latitude. Of the 40 islands and cays 8 are inhabited with a population estimated at 23,500. The capital, Cockburn Town, is situated on Grand Turk. Quietly awaiting your discovery this "Beautiful by Nature" jewel of a country is blessed with 230 miles of white sandy beaches, 170 miles of virgin barrier reef and 11 national parks, 11 nature reserves, four sanctuaries and seven areas of historical interest covering 270 square miles.

Visitors may bring in duty free for their own consumption one carton of cigarettes or cigars and one bottle of alcohol. Firearms may not be imported without prior written permission from the Commissioner of Police. Controlled drugs, spear guns, Hawaiian slings and pornography are also illegal. Since there are no income or capital gains taxes, Government raises funds through import duties which normally range from 10% to 30%.ELECTRICITY

Visitors from USA and CANADA may enter without a passport, if they have an original birth certificate (or, a notarized copy) and a photo id (e.g. Driver's License). Visitors from other countries do require passports, but no visas are necessary except from countries of the former Eastern Bloc. They are advised to contact the nearest British Consulate Office.
